Most of the time, we end up getting a job that will help us pay the bills instead of our dream careers.

I remember the movie “The Devil Wears Prada”, the main character Andrea played by Anne Hathaway dreams to be a journalist but instead becomes an assistant to one of the biggest magazines in New York. She eventually ended up leaving even if it’s the dream job of many women because it does not give her fulfillment. Put simply, it’s not the one she really wants.

The idea of starting a new career can be overwhelming. Experts from newcareerideas.com say that no matter how smart or hard-working you are, finding the perfect job can be challenging. It’s recommended to keep an open mind and continue to learn new skills. If you are dreaming of starting a new career or pursuing your passion, expect that it will be not easy but will definitely give you more satisfaction.

If you are constantly dragging yourself to go to work and dreading the hours you spend sitting on your desk, it may be a sign that you are experiencing more than just the usual Monday blues.

Here are some of the signs that your work is making you unhappy.

Struggling to get out of bed

Hitting the snooze button all the time? If getting yourself off your mattress is a daily, emotional battle, that could be a sign that you really dread going to work. People who are happy with what they do are mostly enthusiastic and look forward to spending time doing the job they want. If you are feeling the opposite, then maybe it’s time to rethink your career choices, or talk to your manager to seek a role that will make your job more interesting.

Constantly feeling drained

It is normal for work to be demanding at some point, but it shouldn’t be consuming all of your energy all the time. If you are always spending time working, whether staying late in the office or taking home some of your to-do list, then you probably no longer have work-life balance and your job is preventing you from getting the energy that only your social interactions and life experiences can give. It’s important to make time for friends and family, especially if they are the reason you are working so hard. Talk to your supervisor about your responsibilities and find a way to lessen your workload. If it’s not possible, then maybe it’s time to seek greener pastures – a job that pays more but demands less time.

You’re interested in seeking other jobs

If you feel that you are missing out on opportunities or wishing you have a different set of credentials on your profile. You may find yourself spending too much time stalking your friends’ LinkedIn’s profiles and browsing career ideas. It can be just casually checking on how people are doing or browsing for interesting careers and what the market is looking for these days. This is likely a sign that you no longer feel fulfilled with your current responsibilities or there are other needs not being met by your current job. Make a note of which career profiles or jobs you mostly find yourself navigating into – that’s an insight your subconscious is telling you.

Whatever the reason may be, seeking new jobs or roles is a normal process of growth. Often, the signs are exhibited subtly and is pointed out to you rather than you realizing it. People are often ready to move on but fail to acknowledge the fact due to various reasons. Remember that while happiness and fulfillment is important in your career, making a choice for the right one also involves many aspects of your life.

Finding a job where you get to pursue your passion is almost impossible for many of us.
